Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh went to Saudi Arabia for treatment after being wounded.
Saleh was injured in an attack on his compound and he flew to Saudi Arabia for medical treatment as Yemen’s Vice President Abduraboo Mansur Hadi took over Saleh’s duties, a Yemeni government spokesman said.
Prime Minister Ali Mujawar,
two of his deputies and Parliament Speaker Yahya al-Raiee were also injured in the palace attack and were taken to Saudi Arabia for treatment, the Yemen’s state news agency said.
 As fighting in the Yemeni capital between government troops and the men of influential tribal leader Sheikh Sadeq al-Ahmar intensified in the past 24 hours, a US envoy arrived in the region to press President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down.
 The Hasba area witnessed fierce fighting as power and water supply to the area were cut off. President Saleh in a TV message denounced al-Ahmar for dragging country towards a civil war.
