Ramdev claims at least a hundred thousand people across the country had joined him. Deeming the violent police crackdown on his anti-graft stir a ‘barbaric’ act, Indian yoga guru, Baba Ramdev, slammed the federal government for committing atrocities against women and children and for allegedly conspiring to ‘kill him in an encounter’.
Less than 24 hours into Ramdev s fast against corruption and black money, police officials detained the country s most famous yoga guru, after a violent clash with his supporters in New Delhi.
Addressing a news conference in the Haridwar town of northern India s Uttarakhand state for the first time since his eviction, a visibly shaken Ramdev alleged that the police officials, colluding with the federal government, had planned a massacre at the protest site.
A least 70 people were injured in the pre-dawn raid at a tent where his followers, from poor villagers to foreign tourists and civil servants, had gathered to observe the mass fast.
