His name is Shag, but his art is sharp. The Californian artist has brought his animated, angular retro look to goods that mark the upcoming 40th birthday of Walt Disney World.
The centerpiece is a stylized map of the Magic Kingdom theme park of circa in the year 1971, and elements of it are recurring in glassware, shirts, postcards, coasters and attractive bracelets now on the sale.
Shag: who is a pseudonym for Josh Agle. He was born in the Los Angeles, but his family shifted to Hawaii after the six months, they returned to the California when he was 8 years old. As a child, he remembers seeing previews of Disney World on the “Wonderful World of Disney” television show. He didn’t make it here until 1989.
Agle, 48, has been holding autograph sessions at Disney World, including one Saturday. He spoke with the Sentinel at Magic Kingdom on Friday.
