Nikka Costa Pro*Whoa......

It is reasonable that when artist releases his/her album on their own tag that the freedom from that better characterizes their style. Nikka Costa’s Pro*Whoa!, released her new Go Funk Yourself Records, and is no exemption to this rule as it be the fire, the funk, the soul, and the edge of this extraordinary singer.

Pro*Whoa is almost certainly the best definition of that kind of artist which Nikka Costa is. She is Known mostly for being a bad temper and soul artist, the self declared “Funky White B*tch” spreads her wings to show her lack of fear and wealth of self-assurance. The title track is probably the best model of this. Spinning with the heavy electric guitars and synth about the chorus, Nikka spend a bulk of track rap! A total ego increasing rant, she gloss over her career pointing out that she is singing when she was in the diapers. Executed as more of a concept song that would have more place in her stage show, this song is high energy and edgy.

Most of the songs follow along the same aggression and same tone. “Nylons in a Rip” has a sort of anti love theme to it shares with “Never Wanna C U Again” that further highlight not only the strength of Nikka’s character, but the power of her voice. It starts with a heavy beating drumline which leads into her poetry. As chorus drops, song’s heavy rock pitch carries the volume of the edge up to 10. The song carries on seeing saw between calm and the rage in just a way which matches Nikka’s personality. Never Wanna C U Again has a kind of golden soul sound to it that boasts a Tina Turner like personality and strength. One stuff features Nikka is taking a page from Gwen Stefani in the track which seems like a No Doubt throwback. It is clear that, even if, there is a strength and confidence within that seep from within each song. This is the sign of artist with variety in both style and liberty.
