Thousands protest against cuts outside Greek parliament....

Thousands of citizens are protesting against austerity measures in front of the Greek parliament.
The protesters are furious about the latest austerity package being pushed by Prime Minister George Papandreou.

Almost half of the population wants parliament to reject the package. They say the harsh reforms will drive many people into poverty.
Prime Minister George Papandreou is defending the package despite the protests. While addressing the parliament, he appealed to Greeks to support deeply unpopular reforms and avoid a catastrophic bankruptcy.
